Gintoki, Shinpachi, and Kagura return as the Yorozuya team's fun-loving but broke members! They strive to survive in an alternate-reality Edo where swords are forbidden and extraterrestrial rulers have invaded Japan by performing any labor they can get their hands on. Shinpachi and Kagura, on the other hand, have yet to be paid... Is Gin-chan really spending all much money on pachinko? Meanwhile, an extraterrestrial spaceship crashes nearby as Gintoki staggers home one night. A fatally injured crew member comes from the ship, handing Gintoki an odd, clock-shaped gadget and telling him that it is extremely powerful and must be protected. Gintoki smashes the gadget the next morning, mistaking it for his alarm clock, and realizes that the world outside his apartment has changed.
