Yuki Nagato, a quiet bookworm and gamer, is the head of North High School's Literary Club in a familiar yet alien environment. The only other members of the group are her buddies, the obsessively cautious Ryouko Asakura and the absolutely ordinary Kyon. Yuki, on the other hand, appreciates the calm and quiet she shares with them, especially when she's with Kyon, on whom she has a crush. Tsuruya and Mikuru Asahina, two pals with opposing personalities who frequent the Literary Club, have been added to the mix. Yuki is heading back to her apartment on a cold December day when she is forced to write bizarre symbols on the ground by a girl who claims to be seeking to catch Santa Claus. Haruhi Suzumiya, an eccentric student from the school, introduces herself.
