The novel takes place in a world where humans are still fighting the "unknown"—humanity's nemesis. Children who were transported to a cold sleep facility many decades ago after the invasion by the "unknown" awaken from their hibernation to discover that their bodies have evolved extraordinary forces. To defend the country from the "unknown" that emerges through the Tokyo bay gate, the boys and girls fight battles in the cities of Tokyo, Kanagawa, and Chiba.
